Notes: The ELEKTRONIKA MK 33 is a Soviet-built 9-digit calculator with basic functionality, memory, the square root, and the percentage function.

It is a remake of the ELEKTRONIKA S3-33 which was released in 1978. Even though this MK 33 model was released in 1982 it still uses an LED display instead of LCD.

The model on display here was not tested. It uses special rechargeable batteries with a non-standard formfactor and voltage.

Some helpful translations:
  • The Cyrillic symbol П is short for Память which translates to Memory.
  • Now the function of П+ and П− should be obvious.
  • The Cyrillic symbol И in ИП is short for Индикация which translates to Indication. Combined with Память this means that the ИП key shows the current value in memory.
  • The Cyrillic symbol С in СП is short for Сброс which translates to reset. The СП key therefore clears the calculator’s memory.
There is a lot of very interesting information on this calculator on other calculator collectors’ sites. For example:

Peripherals

The ELEKTRONIKA BP2-3S 220 V power adapter. An interesting kind of charger. Instead of a transformer it uses two diodes and two resistors to bring the mains power down enough to charge the cells. Fortunately the battery compartment is located in such a way that, to access the battery cells, the charger needs to be removed from the mains socket. If that wasn’t the case it would have been a really dangerous charger.
