CASIO RC-2 RAM card CASIO RC-4 RAM card This is a small Pocket Computer programmable using a variant on the BASIC language. It can also be used for direct calculations. Functions can be selected using keys, or simply typed. Also present are a "Memo" memory, and "Function" memory into which often used functions can be stored.

It has two siblings, the CASIO BP-140 which lacks the "Function" memory, and the CASIO FX-820P which is the same device but with a built-in printer and integrated rechargeable batteries. The manual of this Pocket Computer is for all three variants.

The CASIO FX-720P doesn’t have any memory of its own. Available RAM cards are the RC-2 (2 kB), and the RC-4 (4 kB). These RAM cards have battery backup (CR 2016) and can be used to store programs outside of the Pocket Computer. Because it lacks internal memory, the CASIO FX-720P will not work when there is no RAM card inserted. The Pocket Computer will also not switch on if the latch for the RAM card is not set to "LOCKED".

Using the RC-2, the Pocket Computer has 26 variables and 1568 programming steps. With the RC-4 there are 3616 programming steps. These steps can be used for programs or for MEMOs. Variables can be either a string of up to 7 characters, or a numerical value. Memory can be partitioned to have more than 26 memories in exchange for programming steps.

It has 10 programming slots for storing separate programs. These can alsoœœ be used as subroutines using the "GOSUB"-command.

This Pocket Computer has a drawback. It doesn’t have a rerun function. In other words, if you type in a long calculation and make a mistake, the complete calculation has to be retyped. And the Pocket Computer doesn’t tell you where in your calculation the mistake occurs.

Another, quite bad, drawback is the back side. Screws get lost when changing batteries, and the case can easily bend.

Peripherals

The aforementioned RC-2 and RC-4 RAM cards (battery backupped), the FA-3 cassette interface and the FP-12 printer.
