Early CASIO model, quite a nice horizontal design. It has an
6-digit fluorescent display.
There is a slider to determine whether this calculator is in currency mode or integer mode. When set to "0" all operations are truncated to integers. This has some peculiar results. For instance 9 ÷ 5 = will get you the result "1". The remainder of the result can be viewed by pressing the ► key and holding it, in this example that will show "8ooooo". Things are more logical with the slider set to "2". Now the results are in 2-digit (financial) floating point and the above calculation will produce "1.80". Its keys are very bouncy. This might be due to worn out capacitors but I have not taken it apart to check. The display has a peculiarity, the zero is lower case! I don’t know any other calculator series that has a lower case zero. The number 170.50 for example looks like this:
The calculator runs on batteries as well as on a power adapter. There is an article about this calculator on the site of the National Museum of American History here (link validated 2025-11-15). |
